A good cause
Occasionally, a request comes my way to help a friend out that ticks the box of a cause I feel I want to contribute too.
A callout
So when the call-out came from my friend Karen, a trustee of action group 350 Aotearoa, I felt a desire to step in and help out where I could. The mission of this group is to: Inspire climate action in communities across New Zealand.
Who are 350 Aotearoa?
350 Aotearoa is the New Zealand arm of the international climate movement 350.org, campaigning to turn New Zealand into a climate leader and to keep fossil fuels in the ground. They have a small team based in Auckland, who support teams of organisers around the country.
Nature Lover
As I love nature and superb photography it was a joy to be able to help with the costs associated with the printing and matting of three outstanding photographs by Chelsea Miller, a documentary photographer and photojournalist. Chelsa has covered events and issues in both Canada and Australia and exhibited in Queensland, New South Wales and British Columbia.
About the prints
The stunning 11x14 inch mounted fine art prints, were auctioned on the night of the sold-out fundraising dinner and helped raised a whopping $2500 for the organisation. The fabulous images were printed on Breathing Color luxurious thick velvet fine art paper, made from 100% cotton fibre which is certified archival by the Fine Art Trade Guild of London.
What was the fundraiser for?
In 2009, a movement began around the world to get us to 350ppm, the safe level of CO2 in our atmosphere. With over 5,200 events held in more than 180 countries, including many across Aotearoa, the group made a real difference at the UN climate meetings in Copenhagen a month later. By the time the negotiations were finished, 117 countries had endorsed the 350 target, hence the name 350 Aotearoa.
